Nestled on 60 wooded acres in beautiful northern Michigan (Traverse City), Benjamin Maier’s studio encompasses large studio space, a large, single chamber wood kiln, a reduction kiln, a soda kiln and an electric kiln. Ben has also run an ever growing, successful gallery for the past 16 years in Leland, Michigan - just 20 minutes north of the studio. Be interested in learning about Atmospheric Firing (wood, soda, reduction firing)
Eager to have a studio space in large, full time, working studio
Want to learn about running a successful pottery gallery and production of inventory
Want to better understand how to make a career with pottery
Ben and his wife Caroline have three children - twin boys who are 5 years old and a young baby and live 7 miles from the studio.
INTERNS WILL BE ASKED TO:
Provide 20-24 hours per week of childcare, mostly for the baby, but occasionally picking up the older boys from school. Childcare will be concentrated into three days and those days can be flexible.
Experience with children is a plus!
Enthusiasm for hanging with some great little kids who are creative and polite is also great.
IN EXCHANGE, INTERNS RECEIVE:
Studio Apartment on Studio Property, connected to Main House up the driveway for duration of Internship
Studio Space and a wheel to produce pottery
Opportunity to fire work in the reduction kiln.
Limited firing opportunity in the soda kiln as well.
If intern is present in May, there is also an opportunity to fire work in the wood kiln.
